“The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves.” — Steven Spielberg
I’ve always enjoyed sharing knowledge and skills and I love the ‘a-ha’ moments in our learning that we can all relate to with positive feelings. I’m grateful to all the teachers in my life. I’m regularly helping colleagues who contact me with their queries, case studies and seek 2nd opinion and guidance in their clinical practice. Since reducing my teaching role in the postgraduate course at Curtin University in 2023, I’ve realised I miss the learning and interaction with colleagues that happens in the teaching environment. I want to learn more and give more to our profession, make a difference and share my expertise with enthusiastic and hard-working colleagues who are looking at improving themselves to provide better care for their patients.
My mission is to continue to develop an analytical and critical mind, which is necessary in current society to avoid falling into traps of popularity and trends that are not scientifically based. Physiotherapy is founded on science, and it is a challenge in this era of information overload to sift through mis-/dis-information and stay true to scientific principles.
“There are no shortcuts to knowledge, especially knowledge gained from personal experience. Following conventional wisdom and relying on shortcuts can be worse than knowing nothing at all.” – Ben Horowitz
